you're hired!

i think most of you know that my mister has his own business making surfboards and other surfing related items. recently, he has been busy making some fins for a local surf shop. he needed some covers for them which meant he needed someone who had a sewing machine and someone who knew how to sew. that's where i come in. i was hired to sew up 6 fin sleeves for 6 fins made by the mister. take a look...

sew fun wednesdays...three

week three of sew fun wednesdays and i really am having soooo much fun.

this week i worked on another project for the little miss.

she's had this pair of jeans that are super cute, but a little to tight

in the booty and thighs, so she hasn't been able to wear them lately.

well, the other day i was checking out some new blogs and ran across this one.

she had done a post about this and so i thought it would be a perfect

project for week three. i tried following her directions on how to complete

this, but it didn't work out to well for me, so i decided to wing it with

the help of my sewing instructor and this is what we came up with...

what you need: pair of jeans, scissors, sewing machine,

seam ripper, decorative trim and thread

first: cut the jeans to desired length and use

the seam ripper to open up the inner thigh and crotch seam.

next: cut two pieces of fabric from the left over

pant leg and place in the open seams folding

the crotch seam over onto the opposite leg (front and back)

then: pin on decorative trim to the bottom of skirt

finally: sew on trim

viola! you have now have a new/reused skirt for your little miss.

sew fun wednesdays

this is a new blog series i will be doing for the next few weeks.

i am taking a sewing class on wednesday nights. i already know

how to sew, but i take the class just so i can have three hours

of uninterupeted me time. my first project was a sunshade

for the car. i know i could have easily just gone to target

or babies "r" us and bought a generic one, but i don't like to

be generic. so here's my cutesy sunshade and how i did it...

what you need: fabric of your choice, measuring tape,

heat-n-bond vinyl, 4 suction cup hooks,rotary cutterand mat,

sewing machine, and thread.

first: measure window you will be using the sunshade on

and cut two pieces of fabric according to the measurements.

next: measure and cut two pieces of heat-n-bond vinyl the same size as the fabric

then: iron on the heat-n-bond vinyl to each piece of fabric.

(follow package directions)

next: put pieces right sides together and sew around the

outer edge approx 1/2". leave a 5" opening so you can turn the shade

right side out. once you have turned the shade right side out stitch

1/4" around entire shade. this will close up the space that was

left open for turning and give a nice finished look.

finally: apply grommets to each corner

thanks to the mister for helping me with the grommets

viola! a very cute and non-generic sunshade now fashions your car window. enjoy!
